Overtightening the crown..is it possible to ruin your Omega?

Hey all,

I constantly read this blog and am amazed at how many of us are so hyper-attentive to detail. I LOVE IT! This blog is such an excellent source of info! Now that I given the blog owners props here is my my anal-retentive question:

I have a SMP(2254.50.00), which is NOT discontinued by the way, don't believe the rumors and I am constantly worried about overtightening the crown(s) after I make a date change or some other adjustment. I don't wear my SMP everyday as I want to keep this watch in perfect condition for many, many years to come. I only wear it on special ocassions and always wash it after each use( in the shower with shampoo by hand...no rags). I am even extra cautious when walking around to make sure I don't ding the watch somehow...I know, a tad anal. My question is, "finally" you say, is there any way to tell if you have indeed overtigehtened the crown(s) on either the helium escape valve or the main crown itself? I know that overtightening can ruin the seals, threads, etc and I want to make sure I don't do this or have done this. Every time I tighten the watch the crown(s) always tighten to their initial position so I'm pretty sure I haven't ruined the watch. And no, I don't believe that the Omega logos are supposed to lign up perfectly to the case at 90 degrees when tightened.

On another note, the only flaws on my watch are some scuff marks on the bracelet and clasp from wearing the watch to work(like an idiot) and my wrist laying on my desk. Even these tiny scuffs drive me nuts! I know they can be buffed out but I am terrified to even attempt to fix them for fear of over-buffing them out and possibly ruining the bracelet(which is about $400 bucks by itself).

Any advice for a crazy person?

Please feel free to take a look at any of my other questions:
