Re: mainspring problem?
In Response To: mainspring problem? ()

: i have an automatic chrornograph watch that when fully wound and on
: the wrist is fine.It is only when the watch is resting at night
: it wont have it's full power reserve for 2 days whilst off thr
: wrist.am i right in thinking this could be "mainspring
: creep" and the watch will need a new mainspring?john.

While it is possible your watch may need a service, I have not heard the term "mainspring creep".

The power reserve on your automatic is, let's say, 48 hours. When you take the watch off in the evening (or any other time) it will have that full power reserve only if it is fully wound. Unless you wind the watch just before sitting it down for the evening, it is most likely not fully wound.

Automatic watches are designed to maintain a wound state with a reasonable amount of motion, not to keep the watch fully wound at all times.

Hope this helps
