watch makers mark

I had may omega speedmaster serviced,it the past. i had the back removed to verify the movement # and a another watch maker had told me he noticed an engraving on the case back. I would like to know is that a standard process for an omega watch maker to engrave the back of the case after servicing a watch?. I am the 2nd owner of the watch the pervious owner said he has never service the watch so how did the engraving get there?
