Re: SMP Crown & servicing
In Response To: SMP Crown & servicing ()

: Hello,

: Two questions - SMP bought in 2001, winding crown fell off Oct 2005
: while changing date, replaced by Omega at Eastleigh UK with a
: service shortly after. Now the helium escape crown has fallen
: off - am I unlucky or should I be trying to get something out of
: Omega for the failures - also is Omega at Eastleigh the best
: place to send it for a service / repair in the UK?

Can't answer the UK service question, but I see nothing to indicate that your watch is a lemon. Crowns come off from time to time, so thats no big deal, even less so considering the age of the watch. The watch is due to be serviced every 3-5 years, so a service was due in Oct 05. The HE valve coming off is not that uncommon either, probably less so than the crown however, because most people leave it closed permanently, but it should be a simple fix.

Question:How did the He valve come off? Were you unscrewing it or did it just fall off by itself with no outside factors. Reason Im asking is Since the HE valve is useless in other than extreme diving conditions it should never be opened.

Good luck with the repair and let us know how it goes.
