11 Years Ago: Newbie on eBay / Soon Met Chuck and Derek

11 years ago, I had been registered on eBay for around a year. I had a buddy in England who shared the interest in dashboard mounted Heuers, so we took turns bidding on them, so as not to bid against each other. Back then, the Autavia chronographs were in the $300 range [%1,500 now] and a nice Rally Master pair might go for $1,200 [$3,500 now].

I thought that I needed to start a website, and that's how I met Chuck . . . through his Carrera article.

Chuck introduced me to Derek, and Derek did the technical work for OnTheDash and set up our vintage Heuer discussion forum, along with ChronoTrader.

Over the period 2002 through May 2005, Chuck, Derek and I work together on lots of projects . . . many great discussions, on the phone or by e-mail. Very sad to have lost Chuck and Derek, but happy to keep these parts of their lives going.

By the way, Heuer prices and OnTheDash traffic have both been strong, despite the recession. There have been some rotations, of collectors moving in and out of the community, but it has been surprisingly stable.

In terms of the traffic here on the Omega forum, I will be happy if it picks up, but can also understand when folks are too busy to post or are going elsewhere. We have been victims of the "network effect" . . . people will not write, if people are not reading; and people will not visit, if people are not posting. Of course, if can quickly reverese itself, with some effort. It would be great to breathe some life back into this forum, but that will take "a few good men" (or women). In the meanwhile, it costs nothing for it to sit here, resting.

: In the world of disposable products and "here today, gone
: tomorrow" websites, this Forum, thanks to the ongoing

: Ziglar and late Chuck Maddox, has been a constant.

: Please post your earliest memory of this, the oldest Omega forum
