Re: Seamaster Maintenance
In Response To: Seamaster Maintenance ()

One of the things that wasnt touched upon that I think bears mentioning is the effect that soap has on water. Both salt and fresh water have a fairly high surface tension as liquids go. That means that a seal that is water resistant may not be resistant to say, alchohol (alcohol has a much lower surface tension. Adding soap to water drastically reducese surface tension and could allow water into a place that would otherwise be water resistant. Just a thought.

: I have a 2 year old 2298.80 and I am going
: diving in Mexico in 3 weeks.

: It occured to me that I should check to see if
: the watch is ready for diving, so I called
: Swatch regional and the lady said it would
: be a good idea to have the watch leak tested
: since taking showers (ouch, I did'nt think
: that would be a problem for a diving watch)
: can affect the seals.

: Is she being over cautious or is this true?

: I stopped wearing it in the shower just in
: case.
