In Europe Now...
In Response To: European purchase of SMP ()

Prices over here, with few exceptions, are not as good as you'll find in the States. Good States' dealers will offer, as noted in the other replies, up to 35% off list.

The only Omega I've purchased over here that beat that rule of thumb has been the America's Cup. For some reason the pricing here for it was quite favorable. When I couldn't get a quote in the States of less than $2,495 ($200 below list) I was able to buy it at Heathrow for less than $1,800!

If you buy duty free, you'll not have to pay the VAT tax and therefore realize a price reduction of 16.5% to 20% (depending on the country). That'll usually bring the price close, or equal to States list price. So, know your list prices and exchange rates.

Then, will the dealer offer any discount. Most likely not... most places here are a little tighter when it comes to negotiating a price lower than the one they put on the tag, however discounts can be found, so don't be afraid to ask. You might get lucky.

Of course, once you buy, then you have to (should) declare your purchase and pay U.S. Customs taxes. Around 10% of your purchase price. They decide.

Note: What you will see over here are the new Co-Axials. Some stores have plenty of them, but no negotiating the price. I also got fooled by the displays... the metal bracelets are on display, but these models won't be available for sale from Omega until the end of June (the displays have no movements inside). Leather straps only at this time.

Good hunting... Jim
