FS: Enicar Vintage Sherpa Guide Mark III

For sale this iconic and sought after Sherpa 600 Guide Mark III, Ref. 148.35.01A. The Sherpa 600 lineup was named after the mountaineering guides of the Himalayas to celebrate Enicar’s involvement in the Swiss Everest summit of 1956.

This very model has utilitarian tool watch hints written all over, it combines a Super Compressor case, a 24 hour inner rotating bezel, a GMT hand and a world timer outer bezel. This is an honest vintage tool watch in original and overall good condition.
Please read the condition report carefully and refer to the high resolution pictures to help you assess the overall condition of the watch before you Buy vintage Enicar watch.

MODEL / REFERENCE: Enicar Sherpa 600 Guide, Mk III, Ref. 148.35.01A.

DIAL: The original black matte dial is in very good condition with very minor blemishes to note, it stands out with the iconic raised bronze Enicar Saturn logo and crisp text.
Aged to perfection, it has developed a subtle ‘ghosting’ patina homogenous throughout with minor blemishes to note.
The raised indexes are wide with creamy, intact lume dots which are reversed at 6, 9 and 12 o’clock. The Tritium glows when activated under UV light, then fades off.
Upon close inspection by loupe, some surface oxidation can be seen on the indexes. The hour markers and handset have aged at the same rate and have the same color to them.

CASE: The 43mm case sits tall on the wrist giving it a substantial amount of wrist presence. The Ervin Piquerez S.A. (EPSA) stainless steel case in good vintage condition, with few small scratches and nicks throughout. It shows signs of use consistent with the age of the watch. The case appears to be unpolished, maintaining its thick beveled lugs and sharp side edges.

CASEBACK: The watch has the bayonet case back unique to Enicar referred to with a different patent number than other Super Compressor cases. The original stainless steel caseback is in fair condition, showing a clear Sherpa clamshell logo at the center and a lightly engraved but visible text.
Besides smaller surface scratches, there is a noticeable scratch across the caseback from a removal attempt at some point.
The inner caseback is stamped with the right nomenclature, from the signature diver’s helmet to the case’s serial numbers.

CRYSTAL: The domed plexiglass crystal has been lightly polished and displays only minor surface scratches.

HANDS: The handset is completely correct for this reference and shows some signs of aging.
The baton hour hand presents some very minor loss along the pencil lume in the center. The lollipop seconds hand displays a minor paint loss on the tip.
The rallye style chequered GMT hand shows a very subtle paint loss. The Tritium glows when exposed to UV light, and then fades off.
INNER ROTATING BEZEL: The two-tone 24-hour inner bezel has developed an off-white patina, and the rotating ring between the crystal and the outer bezel is orange. The inner bezel rotates smoothly when operated by the crown at 2 o’clock. Upon close inspection, we can notice some staining in parts of the bezel, especially between 18h to 24 and 24 to 6h.

OUTER ROTATING BEZEL: The external Aluminum bezel rotates manually and has a triangle that allows its wearer to select their city of reference by aligning it with the hour hand. As such, wherever the wearer is, it enables him or her to find out the exact time at any point of the globe at a glance.
The bezel is in overall good condition with no major scratches but a ding near Tokyo between 4 and 5 o’clock. The outer edge of the bezel shows some abrasion and has faded over the intervening decades.

CROWNS: The thick dual crowns are original despite not being cross-hatched, pretty commonly seen for this reference. We can still see the manufacturer’s signature Saturn logo strongly present and well defined.
The crowns operate flawlessly, from rotating the inner bezel, to winding and time and quick date setting.

MOVEMENT: The watch is powered by the famed 24 jewel cal. AR 166, a very reliable self-winding movement with 12h and 24h display, center hands and a quickset date feature by pulling and pushing the crown. The movement has been recently serviced thus runs smoothly and keeps excellent time. All functions work as intended.

BRACELET: The stainless-steel BOR bracelet pairs very well with the watch and comes with its correct endlinks. It’s in very good aesthetic condition with only minor surface scratches and some stretch consistent with use and age of the watch. The folding clasp closes securely and is signed Enicar along with the Saturn logo.
