Sold Today -- Skipperrera for $81,562 (at Bonhams)

Sold today, by Bonhams, in New York City -- this Skipperrera from its first owner, at $65,000 (hammer price) / $81,562 (final price, including the buyer's premium). Looks like an original, "honest" watch, and Bonhams indicated that the case had not been polished. There was some light damage to the dial, especially adjacent to the markers, but well within what is considered acceptable for a Skipperrera.

The Bonhams catalog listing is here -- https://www.bonhams.com/auctions/26132/lot/64/.

The market for the vintage Skippers seems amazingly strong; we have seen six of the Skipperreras sold publicly in 2020 (i.e., by auction houses or dealers listing the watches), compared with a total of five in 2018 and 2019, combined. The two most recent prices are today's at $81,562 and one in late October, at $72,200. [You can see this previous one, here -- http://chronocentric.com/forums/heuer/index.cgi?md=read;id=108219.] You still have to wonder whether the price would have been higher if prospective bidders could have inspected the watch and if the auction room had been full of enthusiastic bidders.

It will be interesting to see whether this enthusiasm will spread to some of the other Heuer "grail" watches.
