Pump Up for Tomorrow's Auction: McQueen / Alltounian Monaco

Most vintage Heuer collectors have December 12 circled on their calendars, as the day when Phillips will be selling the Heuer Monaco gifted by Steve McQueen to his friend and personal mechanic, Haig Alltounian.

To get all of us prepared for the sale, pasted below are the pages of the Phillips catalog. The catalog does a great job of telling the story of Alltounian and his Monaco. Have a look at the beautiful auction catalog HERE.

Earlier this week, TAG Heuer presented (by webcast) a conversation about McQueen, his relationship with Alltounian, the filming of Le Mans and the upcoming auction. Here's a link to the webcast -- https://youtu.be/8UadDOq6g3U.

The conversation is moderated by Michael Clerizo, a writer for the Wall Street Journal, and features six panelists:

  • Jean-Claude Biver -- Retired CEO of TAG Heuer
  • Patrick Dempsey -- actor, racer and TAG Heuer Ambassador
  • Haig Alltounian -- friend and personal mechanic of Steve McQueen
  • Paul Boutros -- Head of Watches, Americas and International Strategy Advisor, Phillips
  • Frédéric Arnault -- CEO of TAG Heuer
  • Catherine Eberlé -- Heritage Director of TAG Heuer

Especially interesting is Alltounian describing his career and the challenges of Le Mans; this segment begins at around 18:30

Looking forward to this historic auction tomorrow.

Does anyone want to estimate what the sale price will be?

Jeff
