$2000 for a Fake??

Kav made the very good point that in my
Article About Fakes, I suggested that people might be willing to pay this kind of money for a fake chronograph, even knowing that it is fake.

I doubt that we will get in the habit of valuing these fakes, but in my view the oversized one represents a better deal, based on the beautiful workmanship / construction of the case and the valjoux 76 being a rarer movement. I believe that the smaller piece could have been produced for around $1000 to 1200, while the larger piece sells in the $1600 to $1800 range, from the producer.

If the smaller piece was actually sold in the $2000 range, I would expect that someone will have some more of them made up. Let's keep watching for these.
