True enough...

...like Keith, I am not out to bash Rolex here. But I have to say I think Rolex is the laymans' status watch. When I was researching watches for my first fine watch purchase, I ran across this statement
"The average man in the street will be more impressed by a $5000 Rolex, than by a $50,000 IWC."

I just can't rememeber where I saw that. It may even be here in the Zowie FAQ's.

For me, I'd rather impress those who know watches.
Plus, you'll be much less likely to have your head cracked on the subway, and your watch stolen from you, if you are wearing an Omega. I like the exclusivity that Omega carries with it. Since I bought my SMP 007 eight or so weeks ago, I have seen only one other Omega owner in my town. However, I have seen too many Rolexes to count.

: Keith, I think if you compared the two model
: for model, you would have to give the nod to
: Omega. Of course the advantage Rolex has is
: name recognition. It's a status symbol that
: the name Omega does not enjoy, at least not
: to the extent that Rolex does. Much like
: driving a Cadillac as compared to say a
: Buick Park Avenue. Two fine cars and similar
: in many respects, but the guy driving the
: caddy gets the attention.
