Counterfeit Watchers Discussion Forum

So I have an Omega Seamaster 2954.50.00. I bought this watch used and it has served me well. So on Monday, I took it in to get serviced at an authorized Omega repair center. Basically, I wanted to get my dial replaced because some of the paint on it is starting to come off around the edges.

The guy takes off the back of the watch case and tells me that my watch doesn't have an Omega movement and that someone had replaced it with a non Omega movement. He does say that the movement looks to be of good quality, just not the original. He says if I want to get it serviced, he would need to put an Omega movement back into it which would be $$$. So I take the watch with me and decide I should seek the advice of this forum. I'm not willing to spend $800 to get this thing back to spec.

I figure this thing must be of some use to somebody, so what do you guys think this is worth on the used market? I went onto ofrie.com and he sells the Omega cases for $700 and the bands are like $500. So I figure I could sell this and use the money towards a brand new watch. What do you guys think? The watch still looks good and keeps time within COSC standards. I even have to box and instruction book for it.

The only other thing that really upsets me about this whole situation is that I have had this watch serviced before at an Omega authorized service center, under Omega's factory warranty. The problem was with the band, but this place still said whenever a watch goes in under warranty, they tear it down and do a full cleaning and so on. So why didn't these people at the first service center tell me about my movement, and why did they honor the Omega warranty if my watch was bastardized? The first service center I took it to is in Los Angeles, and is called Walter Gooden.

The watch was like new when I got it from the guy, so I guess he wore it for awhile and had the movement taken out to re-sell.
