: I bought this on e-bay. The dial and hands seem
: vintage, and the parts seem to match up
: (136.011, cal 611, 40u stamped on case and
: caseback). The lume is nearly kaput as you'd
: expect. The only problem is the obliterated
: serial number. The seller claims no
: knowledge yada yada... The watch runs and
: looks great. I intended to flip it for a
: profit, but it's so nice I want to keep it
: now. Plus I suspect the serial number issue
: devalues it seriously. Sorry the pics aren't
: that great.

: Seller has lots of positive feedback, sells
: items that have been donated to charitable
: orgs that he buys in bulk. No reason to
: suspect he's lying. Were there grey market
: watches back then?
: I can take more pics if desired.
: Thanks
Looks genuine to me; the movement and back certainly are and, thus, the case is. I'd like a better look at the crown, which will have the omega on it if genuine, but this is not a big problem as the crowns are still available. The visible serial number places its manufacture at about late 1966 and Seamaster 600 series were produced from 1958 to 1969, so that's OK.
The photograph is not quite good enough to see if the dial has been refaced - if it has been, a good job has been made of it; there should be the inscription T Swiss Made T (or just T Swiss Made) below the 6 baton on an unrefaced dial.
I can think of only one reason why a serial number has been removed, but after all this time, I don't think it's a worry.
No, it's a very good example in otherwise excellent condition - personally, I too would keep it.
