Counterfeit Watchers Discussion Forum

A forum for identifying and avoiding wholly or partially non-authentic wristwatches -- including counterfeit, replica, Frankenwatches and other fake or bastardized pieces. Our objective here is to DISCOURAGE the sales and purchase of counterfeit wristwatch and jewelry products. It is also for helping people identify watches that are mostly authentic, but have been: altered for personal customization, repaired with inappropriate parts or modified to be passed off as more valuable pieces.

Including a photo of the piece you are talking about ALWAYS helps! You can learn how to post a photo here: How To Include Photos In Your Postings. 'For sale' postings, commercial solicitation and ads are not allowed. Links to Internet auctions are acceptable only if their purpose is to question the authenticity of a product or provide new clues for identifying counterfeit products. Links that appear to be 'shills' promoting the sale of counterfeit products will be deleted. Links to websites of sellers of counterfeit items are not permitted -- we know they are out there and do not need to be encouraging them by sending traffic to their sites. Privacy, additional policies and administrivia are covered in the Terms of Use.

: I'm not American. The questions asked here about weird brand goods
: are relevant. You buy an Omega and, in 40 years time, you still
: have an watch with a value. You buy some half-arsed Chinese
: watch with more exaggerated and meaningless description than a
: romantic novel and 3 days later, you'll not be able to sell it
: on ebay.

Gary, I do agree, the questions asked are definitely relevant to the forum of Counterfeit Watches. However, some of the statements made about Chinese goods are just ridiculous. I'm not Chinese, nor do I have any affiliation with any manufacturers, etc. However, I collect watches and the craftsmanship of some of the Chinese watches impress me over other countries and ironically the same as top brands. Yet, I did not have to pay a ransom price for just a time piece just to show or prove my status in life to someone less fortunate which we all may endup if things continue as they are! I would support many of the harsh statements if a watch collector was faced with determining whether he was purchasing an authentic piece or nock off for investment sake, not just for Brand loyalty unless he was a stock holder or had a vested interest which in that case he would know better and we would not be having this discussion. However, to question the quality of a product based on the country of origin just sounds absurd to me. Just FYI, The Swatch Group, parent company to many of the name brand watches is the company making the quartz movement components in China for the so called counterfeits. Who better to nock off a product than the Name Brand comapny itself for profit. If unsuspecting and unknowing individuals loyalty to brand is stronger than their loyalty to their pocket book so be it. Think about it, counterfeit merchandise is a billion dollar industry for a reason, PROFIT! Check out this article and interview with G. Nicolas (Nick) Hayek, Jr. the current CEO of the Swatch Group: http://www.europastar.com/europastar/magazine/article_display.jsp?vnu_content_id=1000751943 This article was produced in 2005, can you image what is being produced now? Don't kid yourself, China is the primary manufacturing country due to extremely low wages! Otherwise, these large Brand name companies would be out of business just like what happened to their company in the 30's and 70's before being taken over again! Please, share your thoughts.
