Watch Guys / Hollywood Guys / Car Guys ? ? ?
In Response To: inconsistent logic to me ()

Yes, we can segment the possible buyers into various groups -- the guys who collect watches, the guys who collect Hollywood memorabilia and the guys who collect cars.

Maybe I have been wrong in suggesting that this should be evaluated as a piece of Hollywood memorabilia . . . best market is probably that of the car guys . . . a much bigger market, with much higher ticket items, than either the watch or Hollywood memorabilia markets. Of course, the magic of Steve McQueen, is that he bridges the car and Hollywood cultures, as evidence by the $3.75 million paid for his Bullitt Mustang . . . which sells for $40,000, with no provenance.

I am guessing that some of the six documented McQueen Monacos are sitting in beautiful garages, with amazing displays of cars . . . the watches being the "cherries on top".

: Ben's "why it doesn't make sense" logic doesn't really
: make sense.

: For the Newman Rolex (include the $18m one) he has written in the
: past that style icon / Hollywood royalty X defining the iconic
: watch for that brand = many times usual price for that watch
: >> must be a watch collector

: Whereas for the Monaco he writes style icon / Hollywood royalty X
: defining the iconic watch for that brand = many times usual
: price for that watch >> must not be a watch collector.

: It's illogical. If he argues just on the basis of 5/6 watches is
: less unique then one watch, then I wouldn't challenge that -
: it's literally true...
