hi Ron
It is correct that the White dial Autavia is a rare watch. The general rumour is that about 1000 examples were made (though it would be nice hear from anyone who has evidence to back this up)
Firstly the white dial was generally available in Cal 11 and 7733 versions, the 7733 having no date, 30min register and constant seconds.
Often the 7733 is advertised as being a Siffert Autavia, it was not, Siffert wore an automatic.
The very first automatic versions had "CHRONOMATIC" printed above the Heuer crest, manufacture date 1969. The second version had "Autavia" above the crest and polished hands with a thin blue line painted on. These are from 1970-71. Both of these versions would have the silver coloured Caliber 11 movement. The third version has hands similar to those seen on most Monacos (though not early Monacos) except with a blue insert instead of red.
Obviously condition is important, it must have the original finish, fluted pushers and signed crown. If it is mint please check that it has not been refinished, and most of all check the dial has not been refinished.
Then, does it have the correct rice grain GF bracelet with 'HLF' stamped hoods and an appropriate date stamped on the deployment (the manufacture date in month and short year is stamped on the inside)?
Does it come with an original box, either square red racing box or long thin red box with gold trim on edge of lower clam shell?
Now value:
If it were the 1969 auto version, please introduce me to the seller and i'll buy it!
If it were either of the other 2 auto versions and condition is as good as you say then it seems a not unreasonable price. If it has a bracelet, original strap or box then so much the better.
But if it is, as you say, the hand wound version, then the price seems too high. The 7733 is not a very desireable movement and black dial 7733s fetch only $300-400 on ebay.
I think the prices of all Autavias will rise with Tag Heuer's re-release, as they say a black version will be sold too. A good black/white subs Autavia gets about $600 on ebay at the moment, that's about a quarter the price that a new Autavia is likely to be, so there's some room for an increase.
I beleive a there have been a few white dial Autavias sold on ebay in the past 2 weeks, so search ebay and see what prices they fetched before making your decision.
good luck
