When I was looking for a re-issue Heuer I had trouble deciding between a Carrera or an Autavia. I ended up going with the Autavia because of the brushed finish and also the lines on the case retained the hefty and vintage character of the original Autavia. In addition, the dial is beautiful with a full set of applied markers and the crisp silver sub-dials. My only issue are the square pushers….even modern round pushers would have given the new watch a more robust look. Guess we can’t have it all like it used to be.
The re-issue Autavia also has a stunning bracelet…a nice modern spin-off of the beads of rice, but with square linkages between each link. I decided to store the bracelet and use a perforated racing strap instead in attempts to make the watch look as vintage as possible.

:
: for me, a real appeal of the Guinand is that it
: is true to the original Chronomatics, in
: being powered by an original Chronomatic
: movement.
: When they re-issued the Autavia (2003, I
: believe), the minute I saw that the bezel
: would not rotate, I lost all interest. For
: me, the defining characteristic of an
: Autavia was the rotating bezel . . .
: different from the Carrera or the Monaco.
: When the Autavia lost that defining feature,
: then they lost me.
: The re-issue Monaco is truer to the original,
: and therefore more appealing to me. Same
: with the older Lemania powered re-issues of
: the Carrera . . . at arm's length, it looks
: like the original . . . surely a good thing.
: Do others agree or disagree?
