hi allen
you are correct, there is little difference between the two models, but those differences are crucial. the Monza was an economy version of the 1153 Carrera, sharing the same case shape, but the Carrera's was made from stainless steel whilst the Monza's is base metal (available either black or ordinary chrome plated). the other difference is in the complexity and cost of the dial. the Monza is simple matt black painted with luminous markers and a white frame for the date, whilst the Carrera has a metal finish dial with applied luminous markers and a metal frame for the date. movement wise both were available with either cal 12 or 15 though early versions of the Carrera were also fitted with the cal 11, the Monza being introduced after the change to cal 12.
some people prefer the Monza due to it's simpler dial but the downside is problems with corrosion of the base metal case.
Cal 11 Carreras are the most valuable with the blue/grey version fetching most, then comes the later Carreras and finally the Monza. values seem quite volatile at the moment.
i hope this answers your questions
