Thank you for your reply. There is actually a 5-digit number between the lugs of my Mareographe - 42618. I posted two bad photos (the best out of about 50 shots) of the number to my flickr account, the better of which I attach to this message. Is this a serial number, model number, or ?
Thanks for asking about this, as the number is so lightly engraved I had not seen it, and I was just about to put the band back on to take pictures of the watch with the original band.
