Grail?

Maybe not (yet), but it does mark a new era and could well become a landmark watch. After 20 years of standard ETA movements, TAG has rebuilt its watch making capabilities- many of these have been high-end/ niche movements, but the 1887 is a mainstream movement that they have ambitious plans for developing. Will we get a tri-compax layout? Would be great, but I doubt it. It would require an additional plate, and I think the focus will be on getting production of the standard movement up and running before adding a power-reserve variation next year. Shame, as I agree that this is a nicer and more classical layout.

The second shift I see is in design- a lot of TAG Heuers over the last 5 years have had very complex...and dare I say messy- dial layouts. This Carrera returns to a simple, elegant layout...hope we see more of this approach.

I wish that I had better photos of the Heuer 300SLR to share- same design as the Carrera 1887, but with a fume dial, orange highlights and a "Heuer" logo. That's the one that I have ordered...and that's teh one I think could well be "grail-like" down the track.
