I use either FedEx or UPS, in either case with the highest level of service [international "priority" or whatever it may be called]. It seems to me that the faster the package is moving, then the less chance there is of something going wrong . . . theft or delay in customs, for example.

For high dollar insurance, I use Parcel Pro (which provides separate insurance, for packages traveling by FedEx or UPS); Parcel Pro requires the use of FedEx for international packages; within the U.S., Parcel Pro will work with either FedEx or UPS. So on an international package, I use FedEx / Parcel Pro for the high dollar stuff, and UPS for the lower end stuff. My natural preference is for UPS, as they pick up from my office on a daily basis, so there are no trips to the store / counter.

The caveat to all this is that the "fine print" for either FedEx or UPS may limit the insurance coverage, on things like jewelry or antiques . . . this is another good reason to get set up with Parcel Pro, if you will be shipping items on a regular basis. Parcel Pro is set up for the jewelry industry, so there are no exclusions for these old watches.

Sorry if this is somewhat complicated . . . it seems to be the nature of the beast!!
