The "Negatives" on USPS
In Response To: what's the down-side to us-postal REGISTERED service? ()

yes, Postal Service is secure, and yes, it is relatively inexpensive, but:

  • I have to stand in line at the Post Office (versus daily pick-up at my office for UPS and rarely a line at the FedEx store)
  • registered mail is very slow (but secure) . . . I just had registered package arrive from Sweden, in around two weeks)
  • the Postal Service tracking is very crude, compared to the reports you get from FedEx or UPS
  • "customer service" / telephone support is much better for the private carriers . . . I'm not sure how the process of pursuing a claim would go with the Post Office; seems that dealing with a corporation might be better.
