The strangest thing is I worked with isotopes for 10 years and my 12 Milli sieverts lifetime dose rate was from background radiation sustained working in one of the oldest Magnox Reactor power stations in the UK....

Unfortunately for the dial painters (Radium Girls) the body treats radium in a similar manner to calcium and took it into their bones where it destroyed marrow etc and would form bone cancers & Leukemia.....
