Long story short, I was jonesing to get back into a real DSLR after many years of film nikons and my CP995. I was contemplating the D100 but the price was holding me back. Guess if I passed on a few watches I might have gone for it. Then late last fall I heard about the new D70. Man the wait was a killer.
As far as I am concerned the D100 is still a great camera, but in a nut shell, I thought going with the newest technology would be the best thing to do. Glad you didn't ask why I did not go with the Canon Digital Rebel, as that debate is right up there with religion. LOL
I think spending some time at the DP Review site will answer your questions and help you make a decision.
