Published: Massive OnTheDash Review of the Haslinger Auction *LINK*

It was the most successful sale of vintage Heuers in history, a glorious finish to TAG Heuer’s 150th anniversary celebration, an event that brought new visibility (and value) to the vintage Heuer chronographs. And so it is fitting that OnTheDash presents the broadest collaboration in our eight-year history, the largest webpage that we have assembled, The OnTheDash Review of Bonhams Auction of the Haslinger Collection.

This page includes reports from the auction room [thanks to Sandra and Miguel]; perspectives on the auction and the prices achieved [thanks to Thomas]; and a fearless assessment of the legacy and impact of the auction [thanks to David]. The heart of the review is a lot-by-lot analysis of the watches and the prices they achieved. Mark reviews the Carreras, from the 1960s and the 1970s; Rich handles the Monacos and Silverstones, and I focus on the 1970s Autavias, as well as the miscellany from the 1970s (Calculators, Monzas, Verona, etc.) We also add some fun pieces, for example, exploring the "Hodinkee Effect" and looking at some of the watches that looked good in the metal, and ended up in the money.

The Review is not yet complete, so we will publish it as it stands and continue to add content from time to time. Arno has promised some reflections on the event, and we can accept other contributions if some of our readers might want to become writers.

Huge thanks to all our contributors – David, Rich, Sandra, Mark, Miguel, Thomas and Eric – as well as to Arno and Paul, of Bonhams. And let's not forget to thank TAG Heuer for making all this possible, in the 1960s and 70s, and on December 15, 2010.

Enjoy the review!!

Jeff
