: Must be a wonderfull addition to a collection,
: have few questions, is there actually any proof
: that Mr. Mcqueen ever touched one of the two
: watches ?The back sticker is quite fragile
: and disappears as we all know quickly.
: Mr. Mcqueen wore even through part of the
: making of the film a rolex submariner (
: believe 5512 but hard to say), who then wore
: his watch after the film as brace was
: missing in the auction.
: From sources believe to know that at least
: 25-50 Monacos were given to the filming crew
: and various racing drivers and organisators
: of the race which would definetly make sense
: from Heuer as they wanted to promote the
: watch... Does anybody know more ?
: What looks interesting is that there are no
: serial numbers and dates in guarantee
: certificate but sold to le mans ?? The
: property manager said that he only had two
: watches, one for SM and one as a backup
: hence interesting is that there appears to
: be a third one and why did Mr. Mcqueen not
: keep one of these watches ?
: Looking forward to your feedback
: Best regards

Hello Mike. First off who was the source that says 20 to 25 Heuer Monaco's were given to the filming crew? Knowing Heuer at the time that is very unlikely. Also Don Numley (Property Manager of the movie, who had to keep up with the Heuer Steve McQueen was wearing at the time) hasn't mentioned that 20 or 25 Heuer Monaco's were given to the filming crew. When Steve McQueen's estate items were auctioned off I didn't see any watches in the catalog. There were plenty of movie and racing memorabilia, also with matching pipe wrench sets, wooden airplane prop, etc., but no watches. Don Numley had even thought that Steve had kept one of the Heuer Monaco's but he was mistaken, as Steve had returned it. I am sure with the STAR status of Steve McQueen, if he had wanted one, no one would have denied him a Heuer Monaco. So it is possible, lurking somewhere in Steve McQueen's son inheritance he received from his father might be a Heuer Monaco. I would love to know. Good collecting to all, Charles Rush.
