Thanks Eddie.
I think there are a number of contributing factors to not having Carrera on the dial. The re-editions were still something of a toe in the water at the time, they didn't know how popular they would become - see Rich's recent competition for proof of that. The first re-edition Carreras were much closer to their inspirations that most of the later Classics too, there was probably an element of avoiding the new watch being passed off as a classic. And perhaps, in a moment of hubris, the opposite too.
Certainly, since then they have been far less reticent about putting the model series name on the dial. Whether because the success of the Classics is now more proven or that the watches are more distinguishable from their inspirations isn't clear - rationally, it's probably a bit of both. The Jack Heuer LE Carrera has a dial very like an 1153 S's but in a case modelled after the first gen, so no chance of confusion there. The recent LE Monaco and Silverstones have been pretty close to originals - not sure the average man in the street would see the differences as quickly or clearly as us collectors. So they're much more confident about putting the names to the "close" watches now - I reckon the manual carrera re-editions would carry the Carrera name if they released them now.
