Jeff, it is a good point and something I want to do a post on when I have the time and photos because it is an important issue.
You didn't need to be a world class driver or a brand ambassador either. In the mid sixties my father was buying a Piaget and said to the sales person "I like that case, but with the dial in that other model" ... the answer was "no problem Sir" and a few months later he received his "custom" Piaget from the factory in Switzerland, through the authorised dealer.
