Good topic Jimbo,
I read the original thread over on TZ-UK. I too worry about the availability of Heuer parts, but some of the answers on here have put my mind at ease. I guess the explosion of Heuer enthusiasts that can now communicated online has helped massively. I'm not old enough to have known watch collecting without the web. In fact, it was the web that got me properly hooked in the first place.
Mind you, what might be worth considering, is that as the web helps us collectors find parts, it may also aid more and more people to become collectors.. Hence reducing the chance of getting hold of them.
What I do like about our little community is that it is more than just a sterile website. We have got to know each other, not necessarily physically meeting up, but through online communication, friendships and emerged, where we know who to trust.. This behaviour is so much better than just cold information available on a web page. I guess what I'm saying, is that we have built up our own set of trusted contacts.. and parts can be fairly easily sourced through each other - which I think will always be the case.
