Re: OT: 40 years ago at Silverstone F1 GP

Thanks for sharing, Peter ! :-)
Too bad ... I was just a couple of years too young at the time - born 1966 - but sure loved those cool-looking JPS Lotus too, even a few years later, and was proud owner of a 1:18 model of Andretti's. ( Might even still have somewhere, I just realized! ;-) ... Hmmm... )
Think my first season to be aware of and to remember was 1975 or 1976.
"Car-crazy" very early, yes ..... but the "circus" of nowadays ... like Manuel had called it and asked ... doesn't really interest me much anymore. And, most of all, and no wonder, it certainly doesn't impress me anymore at all.
By the way, I just finished reading the book about the 1976 championship, "In the name of Glory". Very interesting background-stuff and info, in case someone cares to know.

And Peter, guess what, I happen to have one of those Omega Dynamic, with exactly this dial. ;-)
On an original blue strap with orig. bracelet, not on the bracelet. Both, I think, look cool for this watch.
Lucky you! At 15 I wasn't wearing Omega yet! .... ;-)

Have a good Sunday evening,
thanks for the childhood memories again :-)
Cheers,
Prost,
Olaf

: 40 years ago, when I was 15, I traveled on my own to Silverstone to
: follow the British Formula 1 Grand Prix race. There was a big
: accident on lap 1 that delayed that race for 1 hour but it was
: still a fantastic day for a young boy that had never seen a
: formula car before. As you can see from my old Kodacmatic
: pictures you got very close to the cars and drivers.

: That day influenced me a lot and is directly connected to the fact
: that I now own a Lotus Elan 1968 and collect motorsports
: watches.

: I bought a black/gold John Player Special Lotus nylon jacket that I
: wore proudly when not wearing my hippie afghan coat! Remember it
: was 1973 with Hendrix, handmade chillums, love and peace and my
: friends didn't share my interest in mechanical things.

: Enjoy the race today

: PS
: My watch at the time was a Omega Genève Dynamic.
