Thanks for the confirmation Jeff, that's what I was looking for. Just one more bit of obscure trivia from 20-25 years ago that I can put to use someday. Perhaps with that knowledge and a $1.50, I can get a Bold Venti Coffee of the Day with extra whole milk at Starbucks????
As for the Cobra, Mr. Shelby actually only sold a handfull with the short stroke wide bore cross bolted 427, and all the rest had the longer stroke smaller bore two-bolt (and much less expensive) 428. Mr. Shelby knew few would be able to tell the difference in a car weighing just over a ton, and he also knew he better have a refund program set up in the event they did discover it (which he did).
As for the 8 additional jewels in the later model ETA, I guess in their search for excellence they found a way to build a movement with less friction and better reliability (for extra cost?). In any case, I now know there are two versions of the Spiro out there, and I appreciate you sharing the info with a curious rookie.
