I agree with Antony and the serial is faint and can be removed especially when polished by inexperienced watchmakers.
The image below shows the location of the model number and the serial is in the same place on the opposite side.
Post a picture and we can certainly comment on the authenticity of the watch. Missing the serial number does not imply it is a fake.
