Just to add to the great comment/post below; In my experience the caliber 11/12 movements do offer a bit more resistance when winding than many other movements. The resistance also noticeably ramps up when the watch nears fully wound. However, as with all or at least most auto wind movements you can keep winding after it is totally wound. It is clutched so it will not run up against a hard stop. When a caliver 11/12 movement is gummed up and in need of a cleaning it becomes more difficult to wind manually and the auto wind mechanism also has a harder time doing its job. This is why people who buy dirty watches often complain that the watch keeps stopping or doesn't run through the night when you aren't moving your wrist. It is not good to run any watch when it is this gummed up. It does sound like your watch might need a cleaning.
