Just when the spectators were hoping that we would see an auction of a Big Sub Autavia run to the end, we see that bids have been cancelled and the auction has ended. Oh well, we have seen this a few times before, right?
Seller had written to me that he received the watch from his uncle (who was a Bishop), and that this uncle had received the watch from an Archbishop, and that the Archbishop had received it as a gift from Pope Paul VI. Today, seller writes that he ended the auction because of a disagreement in his family.
So we have seen provenance of old Heuers relating to Steve McQueen, and Sammy Davis, and Stanley Kubrick . . . got to say that is difficult to visualize the Pope handing out Autavias as gifts to Vatican visitors.
