I think the simple issue is you did not contact all highest bid winners, especially in cases where your reserve was not met. I was one of those too on a couple pieces. Closing the loop with those bidders would have made sense, or a simple "reserve not met" notice on the pieces would have sufficed.
I suggest you email those high bidders when listing the items they bid on for sale.
