Great posting, thank you Darren for these great pictures and the describtion . I especially like the turning Bezel with arrow for additional timing. The rotating bezel was a feature that manufacturers used at the time especially on pilot watches. Case design back then was just getting started to be improved for water resistancy and overall ruggedness.
