I concur re Indys in general, although it was a little lower than I thought in general they are worth nothing like what some think (not me).
Condition was accurately described by me to Phillips on all lots, and yes it was polished, I bought from UK dealer as was seen, I guess beggars cannot be choosers on such a watch, I’d have preferred unpolished of course.
Now is not the time, but whilst there was plenty of support (thanks goes out to the many genuine Heuer guys who visited, it was great to catch up with these old schoolers!) there were also a couple of things I heard of that hurt the auction, but c’est la vie!
For another day.

Jeff,
: No real bone to pick with what you say. Who knows what a 3147 Dato
: with an Indy (Wings and Wheels) dial is worth. The Rarebirds
: watch did not sell. I think we might all agree that the Autavia
: at $200,000 was an aberration. The example from the recent
: auction looked very polished to me....at least from the side
: view photo. I offered one on Chronotrader with pretty good Indy
: provenance in very nice un-touched/sharp edged shape for way
: less than the Rarebirds version. Hodinkee even featured the one
: I offered on their cover for a day. I got no offers. I think the
: fact that several of the original dials for both the Autavia and
: Carrera have been sold lately make these worth a bit less than
: previously. I would think that a provable original might be
: worth more but it doesn't seem so.
: They are rare watches...but I was not surprised by the lower price
: for a shiny/polished version, albeit with a nice dial.
