If you wanted to sell to anglophiles outside the USA interested in high level motor racing where better to advertise than MotorSport magazine? So with my full archive subscription I have been going back though the 1950s.
And the earliest so far is
Jaeger-LeCoultre through UK agents United Technical Supplies.
Most prolific advertiser is AVIA selling time-only watches with a drawing that looks like Mike Hawthorn in an HWM from some years earlier.
Also placing in the race: Halda for the rally people.
What does it prove? Lots of brands coexisting. My first Carrera came from an advertisement in MotorSport, or Autosport, or Motoring News -- I subscribed to all three at the time.
