I am not absolutely sure of your reference regarding the dials but here are my observations. Side by side the dials look the same except for coloring. I have marked in red boxes the area I think you are questioning. On my examples, which are pictured, both of these rings slope. I have drawn a cross section diagram to illustrate what I observed. If yours are different why not send some close up pics so we can see.
