Re: Question for Experts: What Happens to the Black Ring (Se

A fantastic set and congrats to the new owner for his decent and clever purchase !
I bought my first mint monaco in 2001 for 1500 $ and now these have reached 12 K plus. The vintage heuer market was very strong in munich at the watchfair a week ago. A good siffert was sold for 7050 $, a nos montreal white dial for 4250 $.
I had the feeling top quality heuers are getting rarer and rarer with much higher demand than availability.
Our beloved heuers are top performers on the vintage watch market, which tends to become more and more an investors one.
Three big dealers in Germany have includet vintage heuers in their numerious rolex and patek collections.(Bachmann, März, Halem)I think there is no other brand in the watch world with stronger links to motorsports during the 60is/70is, which attracts rapidely new customers eg from the car collecting world.I believe we will see some sharp price increases in the future for top quality pieces. This is supported by consistent marketing of Tag Heuer, information onthedash and availability of vintage portfolio product information through my book, catalogs and press realises.
However now back to your question:
If the new owner wants to wear the monaco I would carefully remove the red backsticker and cover the back case with a protective foil to preserve the typical grinding. The chance that the glass seal is sticky is rather high hence would carefully remove the glass and then clean up the mess. Would choose a watchmaker who is also dial restoring specialist to avoid damage.Check pushers and crown to avoid moisture. Little service to the move and maybe a regulation.
Best wishes
Arno
