2 tone series 1000 professional 980.021.L non-srewed crown?

I have a 2 tone 1000series diver. It is an early model and does not have a screwdown crown. Can a screwed crown be retrofitted? Does the watch have a value that would keep me from wanting to do that? Every other 1000 I have seen has a screwed crown. Does anyone have production #s or other details about this watch?
