Meaning of "First Series" or "Second Execution", Etc.

Raymond:

when we refer to a particular watch as being "first series", "second exection" or maybe "Mark One", we are identifying the watch by inspecting its features / elements and then putting the watch into the correct category. For example, we know that the very first Autavia chronographs had a screw-back case and a dial with larger registers, so we call that first execution or first series. When we see a Carrera 2447, and the applied markers have gone from thinner to wider, then this one has gone from first to second execution. Other elements like smooth or knurled pushers, details of the hands, style of the markers, numerals on the registers, screw-back or snap-back case, etc. help us place a watch in its proper sequence.

Yes, it would fantastic to be able to assign years of production to particular models and versions, but we do OK with the information that we can assemble, as a group. This adds to the fun of putting the pieces of the puzzle together.
