Interesting comment about paul smith et al ... when I was in NY in the early 1990s, I noticed the Ralph Lauren shop had a pretty big selection of vintage Autavias for sale. I wasn't that into Autavias at the time and compared to what you could pick up at antique markets, Ralph Lauren (not surprisingly) was pretty expensive. They probably were cheap compared to todays market....

Mark, thanks for the tip about the 50's Heuer at Louis Martin, I checked their website, but they dont have a Heuer on it, I might try emailing them to see what they have.

Actually, I just remembered that on that trip to NY I picked up this watch in a flea market in Manhattan:

I don't wear it that much anymore, but I recycled the bracelet for my Cortina - it is a perfect match to the Heuer bracelets of the time (admitedly without any Heuer shield on the clasp!)
