Re: Perspectives on the Autobahn

It's quite unusual to find a stretch of unlimited Autobahn that's lightly trafficked enough that you can let your car off its leash - I do remember being passed once by a 911 when I was doing around 240 km/h, it was quite a surreal experience!

I used to live in Starnberg, a pretty affluent part of Germany and there was some pretty exotic machinery there - my walk home from the station went past the start of the Autobahn and a couple of times always stuck in my mind - this was back at the start of the 90s and the Porsche 959 vs Ferrari F40 battle was still pretty fresh. There were several examples of each in town and I remember seeing both of them get to the start of the Autobahn, the rears would squat down and those cars could just disappear! Whilst making some incredible noises too. I also remember going to a drive-in cinema in Munich and one of the F40s rolled up next to us! Not the sort of car you expected to see at a drive-in, I'm sure they couldn't hear the first half of the movie because of the cracks, tings and pops the car made as it cooled down...

^^ Starnberger See (Lake Starnberg).

I never went to the Memorial in Berlin - I often saw the sign for it as it was close to one of my favourite restaurants. I know a few watch shops but not all that many as I was working in Berlin and not living there at weekends - I'm off there at the start of August so if you could find out those addresses from your PC Peter, it would be appreciated. And of course I will do another city report for you guys :)
