Lots of auctions on eBay are won by snipers making bids in the last moments of an auction, in the hope of not showing their hand and getting something as cheaply as possible. It's often hard to tell how much interest there is in an item until bidding is ended and all the watchers have had their tilt.

I started off bidding on Autocourse annuals and it quickly became clear that there was no chance of winning unless you adopted that tactic.
