Really you are the one that matters here, if you're happy to have a re-dialed Monaco (and the one on Ebay looks like the refinisher did a good job, it would fool plenty of people in the flesh i'm sure) then that is what matters. However in no way is that a good value buy as its at a price level you'd want a good condition original 1533b to be at.

I guess for "collectors" then most of us want to own "original" watches and unfortunately the value is mostly tied up in the watch being original, certainly a significant part of this value is in the original dial, which is why we often talk about dial condition so much. I think there is more "value" and collectability in an original dial which has some damage BUT the bottom line is, if you prefer to have a mint re-dial over one with dial damage then that matters more than other peoples opinions.

Actually recently there was a black dial 73633 re-dial on Ebay that was available for just over £1000, the case had no serials and the back had no tool33 markings and the hands were incorrect, but it actually looked quite nice (especially if fitted with some original hands down the line) and i was tempted...as a curiosity that looked nice. However i guess in the end the fact that i didn't buy it relates to me already having Monacos in my collection and just not wanting to spend money on something that was incorrect (as it's money i could save to spend on something authentic down the line).

Bottom line is that if you buy a re-dial as its in your price bracket and post it on OTD, i'm sure most people will appreciate it for what it is, in the case of the example on Ebay, still a nice looking (albeit overpriced significantly) watch.

Cheers

: Personal opinions please:
: I have not seen a redialled Heuer posted on this site with a claim
: such as "This is Mine."
: Whereas in a recent post
:
: The Monaco 1533B Re Dial on EBay
: this example seems to be a legitimate watch as I too received the
: same response from the seller posted by Richard77, when I asked
: the seller about its authenticity. Is this not such a bad thing,
: or is it a sacrilege? More specifically, is it a secrilege on
: OTD only? (Personally, I'd love to have it on my wrist, but then
: I am a Heuer novice, and a poor one at that!!! and
: I'd prefer a better example of a cheaper watch, than a poor example
: of a better watch.

: I'm just not sure where re dials stand. Is it a matter or personal
: ethics, practicality or ego that these aberrations are never
: displayed with pride, or are they just hidden away from our
: cyber peers from a sense that they are not good enough?
: With respect and regards
