Can any US cousins advise - USPS

Having a problem with US Postal Service...

I sent a fellow US based member a Heuer buckle on 12th July, and the USPS tracking just states:

"Your item was processed through and left our BETHPAGE, NY 11714 facility on July 20, 2011 at 7:53 am. The item is currently in transit to the destination. Information, if available, is updated periodically throughout the day. Please check again later."

Is this normal, I presume it might be caught up in customs, but I'm not familiar with US procedures?
