Very Different Construction and Geometry of These Cases

Indeed, the construction and geometry of the two cases is very different.

It gets confusing because the lugs have the same basis shape (and look), but most elements of the case changed from Mark 1 to Mark 2.

Of course, we see the difference in an instant with the "head shots", as the proportions of the bezel / insert are very different.
