1940's gold Heuers
In Response To: Gold chrono *PIC* ()

Hi,

I really like these chronos. Very classic. I haven't really studied them, but I do know they are not super rare; you see similar two register gold Heuers on ebay pretty often. Frequently they are horrific fakes or redials, but often they look completely original to me. They are not too pricey either - usually selling just a bit above - or sometimes below - the price for an 1163 Viceroy (another common model).

I haven't done a detailed study of these models but you get a feel what looks "right" - the pic you post does look original. But I think $12k is crazy high, unless you have papers proving it was the watch Chuck Yeager or Eisenhower wore...

I'm guessing a lot of these models survive as they are gold - people are less likely to throw away a "junk old watch that doesn't work" if it is made of gold.

Anyway, here is my one, it is a 14k model. Lugs are a little different. The movement is 408XXX like yours - but the serial number (inner case) looks like 80xxx not sure why the difference in serials between the watches, Mark any ideas? In any case I really like it. If the 2444s are the father of the Carrera, this is the grandfather....
